Semi-natural woodland encompasses any stands of trees that do not originate from planting by humans.
These woodland sites comprise of native tree and shrub species that, whilst grown naturally, may have been managed to some degree via coppicing or felling. In these cases the trees have been allowed to regenerate by natural processes
The site N1 found at the far North of the Fell is a Semi-Natural wood, bordering a steep valley, at the bottom of which runs the Cong Burn Stream. Whilst Semi-natural woodland is not found in association with all Lowland Heaths, the N1 site is a habitat for a range of tree and shrub species.
