An alternate view of the valley mire habitat at Wanister Bog. The position of the mire in a depression in the terrain is evident from this viewpoint, a position that allows continuous drainage of water into the bog, creating the unique hydrological system that makes the location especially rare and in need of protection.

 

Also visible at the the site is management of P. aquilinum at the margins of the open heathland behind. The litter visible will likely be removed to allow new heathland species growth
