Mosses and lichens

Lowland Heath is home to a range of Bryophytes, Liverworts and Lichens. The Calluna layers provide an ideal habitat, under which they can occur, with Cladonia sp. often prevalent, as at the Waldridge Fell site. These species are seen as characteristic and are often used as determinants of Heathland quaility.
