Epilobium angustifolium

Rosebay Willowherb. A perennial herbaceous plant growing widely across the Waldridge Fell site.

E. angustifolium is an invasive species to heathlands and so is seen as undesirable in these habitats. It possesses the ability to rapidly colonize recently burned or cleared areas of land, where it can demonstrate large scale expansion, forming sizable stands.

Care is taken to manage growth of this species, especially following cutting of heather, to prevent a rapid take-over of the land made available and competition with these important heathland native plants.
